1. Place a few chestnuts or walnuts in each corner of the house and in any area of the house where you frequently run across spiders. Spiders are repelled by the smell.
2. Fill a standard spray bottle with water and mix in 15 to 20 drops of peppermint oil. Spray down all the cracks and corners of your house. They will run in the opposite direction.
3. Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Apply it to any area in which spiders gather and spray it directly on any spider you see. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which is thought to burn and kill spiders upon contact.
To avoid spiders:
Avoid keeping clothing and shoes on the floor, especially if in an area known for spiders; consider storing inside plastic containers.
Seal cracks and crevices around the home.
Vacuum/sweep away webs in and around the home.
Shake out all clothing that has been in the laundry basket before wearing/washing.
Keep garages, attics and basements clean and clutter free.
If a spider bites you, contact your primary care physician for medical advice.
