5 Easy Holiday Frostings
Ingredients
Vanilla Butter Frosting:
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 5 Tablespoons light cream
Orange Butter Frosting:
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons orange extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 5 Tablespoons light cream
  • A few drops red and yellow food coloring
Creamy Cheese Frosting:
  • 1 3 oz. package cream cheese softened
  • 1 Tablespoon light cream
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Fudge Frosting:
  • 4 squares 1 oz each unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup butter
Vanilla Filling:
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups milk scaled
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 Tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Vanilla Butter Frosting:
  1. Cream butter and salt together. Add vanilla, alternating with cream. Beat until blended. Makes 2 1/3 cups.
Orange Butter Frosting:
  1. Cream butter and salt together. Add orange extract, alternating with cream. Beat until blended and blend in food coloring. Makes 2 1/3 cups.
Creamy Cheese Frosting:
  1. Blend together the cream cheese and light cream, beat well. Gradually add and beat in sugar. Stir in vanilla. Makes about 1 1/4 cups.

Fudge Frosting:
  1. Melt chocolate in the top of a double boiler, over hot water. Blend in sugar and milk, alternating. Add egg yolks one at a time, stir well after each addition. Blend in vanilla and butter. Makes about 1 1/2 cups.
Vanilla Filling:
  1. Combine flour, 1/2 cup of the sugar and salt. Stir milk into the flour mixture. Bring to a boil over low heat, stirring constantly. Cook and stir for 3 minutes. Beat remaining sugar into eggs. Stir hot liquid slowly into eggs. Return to pan and stir 2 minutes longer. Stir in butter. Cool; stir in vanilla. Makes 2 1/2 cups.
