Homemade Brown Gravy With Onions
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter cut into 4 pieces
  • 3/4 cup sliced onion
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup beef broth or stock
  • 1 tablespoon whole milk
  • Cooked Rice
  1. Cook rice according to package directions.
  2. In a medium sauce pan, melt the butter. Once hot, add the onion and a big pinch of salt and cook until softened, about 5 to 7 minutes. Until onions are tender. Stir often to keep from burning.
  3. Stir in the flour and and salt and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Slowly whisk in the broth/stock and cook until thickened, about 3-5 minutes.
  5. Remove from the heat and whisk in the milk. Serve over rice while hot.

Makes 4 servings.
