Homemade Sweet Churros. You will make this recipe over and over again. They are that yummy.
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup flour
1 cup unsalted butter
3 large eggs
Vegetable oil for frying
Freezer bags for piping
1 cup coarse sugar crystals for coating
In a saucepan, heat the vanilla, milk, butter, salt and sugar with half a cup of water. Bring the mix to a simmer.
Mix in the flour and stir for 30 seconds or until dough forms. Remove from heat and place the dough in a large mixing bowl.
Add the eggs one at a time, making sure each egg is completely mixed into the dough before adding another. Continue to mix until the dough has a smooth and glossy appearance.
Fill a large pot with vegetable oil and heat to 350 degrees. Use a cooking thermometer to maintain this temperature.
Place your dough in a freezer bag and cut a corner off the bag.
Squeeze the dough through the cut corner of the bag into the oil. Swirling as you pipe into the oil to make a circle. Repeat until you have four churros in the pot.
Fry for two to three minutes, then flip each churro and fry for another two to three minutes, or until golden brown.
When done frying, carefully remove the churros and place them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Coat the churros with the coarse sugar crystals while still warm.
