Best time to water your garden is early in the morning.
General rule of thumb is about an inch or two of water each week with deep, infrequent watering as opposed to the more frequent shallow watering.
If you live in a hot dry climate your plants may need more frequent watering.
Twice a week: lettuce, celery, spinach, beets, carrots, turnips, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, peas.
Once a week: beans, green beans, corn, peppers, eggplants, zucchini, yams, peanuts, rhubarb, onions, pumpkins.
Every 10 days to 2 weeks: tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupes, butternut squash, banana squash, peaches, nectarines, pears, apples, plums, cherries, grapes, asparagus.
