Potassium is essential for maintaining fluid and electrolyte balance in the body.
It also helps to counterbalance water retention caused by excess sodium. High potassium foods include beans, dark leafy greens, squash, avocados and dried fruits.
A smoothie made with one cup of plain yogurt and one cup of mashed bananas will provide 40% of your recommended daily potassium intake. You can boost the potassium content even more by adding some cocoa powder.
Elevate your feet
Elevating your feet will help to drain fluid away from your ankles. When you sit down to read or watch television, put your feet on a footstool or recline on the couch with a pillow under your ankles. Raise your feet on a pillow while you sleep. If you spend most of your working day sitting at a desk, lift your legs up every fifteen minutes and hold them parallel to the floor. Rotate your ankles and wiggle your toes.
