The Best And Easiest Ways To Get Rid Of Fruit Flies. If you have problems with fruit flies try these ideas:
Fruit flies are small flies that lay their eggs near the surface of fermenting foods or other moist, organic materials. Fruit flies are especially attracted to ripened fruits and vegetables in the kitchen. But they also will breed in drains, garbage disposals, empty bottles and cans, trash containers, mops and cleaning rags.
The first step is to get rid of what is attracting them. Put all the apples, potatoes and onions in the fridge. Clean your sink, garbage disposal, trash can thoroughly. Make sure your trash can has a lid. Rinse your mops and cleaning rags with bleach water.
Pour hot water and bleach down your drains at night. Cover the drain with a bowl or dish. They breed in moist area’s. Sink drains are a magnet for the pest.
Rinse out your beer/soda cans and wine bottles before throwing them away. This really attracts the monsters!
Get a bowl with sweet balsamic vinegar in it mixed with water say 1:5 vinegar and water. Put a squirt of dish soap in it, give it a stir. Leave it out. They will be attracted to the sweet vinegar but the soap breaks the surface tension of the liquid and they fall in.
Set out a glass of wine or something sweet and they will all collect in the drink. Take a bowl and place some wine into it, place saran wrap over it and pierce small holes into the wrap and place over the bowl. The gnats can get in but not out and drown in the fermenting wine. Works like a charm!
They could be from live inside plants. I went through that some time ago turned out it was the soil from the plants is where they were coming from I threw them all out problem solved.
Do a mix of all theses ideas? Find the room that has the most. I found its best to use a container that has a “neck” like water bottle, soap or beer bottle, etc to mix the solution. It can be anything that is going to smell strong, the soap is to stick to them, put 2 or 3 in room with most. Then 1 in each room. Pour stuff in drains. I had chemical pneumonia once from bleach so I use windex now in my drains. Take out all trash. Move plants out or put all in one room and close door. They will multiply very quickly, like in 1 day. My neighbor found her source by shutting doors to all rooms, bathrooms closet, then found they were all gone except 1 room so after hunting for source, Found them in unopened bag of dog food. But bag had a small rip in it and they loved it.
