Poor Man's Smothered Steak

  • 6 thinly sliced beef steaks
  • 1/2 cup oil for frying
  • 1 cup flour divided
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 2 large potatoes peeled and cut into cubes
  • 1 Cup Water
  1. Put 3/4 cup of flour on a plate.
  2. Whisk the 2 eggs in a shallow bowl.
  3. Heat cooking oil to medium heat.
  4. Coat the steaks lightly, one at a time, into the egg mixture, then into the flour. This will seal in the juices.
  5. Place in medium hot oil and fry for 2 minutes on each side. Or until slightly brown.
  6. Place the meat on top of each other and mix 1/4 cup of flour to the hot oil, to make the gravy. Stir until a thin paste. Slowly add 1 cup water and mix until smooth. Add more water if too thick. Spread the steaks around the pan.
  7. Peel potatoes, cut into small cubes then place in the pan.
  8. Cook covered on simmer heat until potatoes are soft. (About 1 hour)
